Why we should read

There are many reasons why you should consider picking up a good book. With so many alternatives available, you might ask, "why to waste your time on books when you can just watch the movie." Listed below are few reasons why I think everyone should read. I have missed many other reasons, but without further ado, here they are: If my reasons aren't good enough for you to start reading, it is essential to keep in mind that some of the most successful and wealthiest people read daily. They have attributed their success to their reading habit and have vouched on the benefits of reading and the critical role in their journey towards success. So, if you hope to be successful and productive, reading might be a habit you should consider picking up. Here are some reasons why you should read. I hope this gets you motivated to read more every day.

Books offer a glimpse into the minds of great thinkers.

Some books cannot be accurately portrayed in movies. Just think about it. Movies have like two hours to tell a story. So there is a limit to what a film can depict. The details and sometimes important ones are left behind when the producers and directors of movies make them. Besides, reading books gives you access to the person's mind who dreamed up or came up with the whole concept or storied themselves. If they spent so much time and effort writing a good book, it is only fair to spend a few hours reading their work, especially if it can teach us something worthwhile. Movies are, most of the time, interpretations of the original idea or concept. If you want to understand something in depth, there is, in my opinion, no substitute for reading.

Reading allows you to develop empathy.

In movies, we seldom get a sneak peek into the mind of the characters and people portrayed. We learn about them through their actions. While some of us might be good at deciphering someone's action, it is never easy to solve someone's intentions or the reason why a particular person might act the way they did. There might be an endless number of explanations and possibilities as to why a person might work in a certain way. The thing about novels is that it offers a glimpse into the mind of others and what they might be thinking. It allows us to understand a character at a profound level, which might be challenging to watch a movie.

Movies don't allow your imagination much liberty.

As movies often portray characters and event in a certain way, it doesn't give the audience who are engaging with it the opportunity to visualize what is being depicted on screen. It fixes the mind on a particular concept. I think that reading can help us mould our minds into flexible and versatile thinking. It allows us to think for ourselves and picture things in our way without being restricted to just being bombarded with image after image.

Reading allows you to expand your mind.

Reading allows you to expand your mind in several ways. We can learn new things and develop our thoughts and shape the way we think. Reading is food to the mind. Just as the body needs food to keep growing, the mind needs food in new concepts and ideas, which books provide in abundance. It is essential to read a variety of books to expand your mind. So if you mostly read fiction, take a shot at reading nonfiction. This will help you gain new knowledge and insights.

Reading exposes you to new perspectives.

No two people are alike. Each individual is unique. By reading a book, we get to inhabit the writer's world, thoughts, ideas and imagination. This is essentially different from our very own. We can see the inner workings of the mind of another human being. Reading is the gateway of exploration, discovery and arriving at new conclusions.

Reading makes us better communicators.

Reading expands our vocabulary. We learn new words and phrases that we can use in our everyday lives and conversations. We can use these newfound words to express ourselves better and to understand better how others say themselves. We can become effective communicators by using the right words at the right time in the right place. It will help refine your speech and writing.

Reading improves your critical thinking.

You can expand your critical thinking abilities. We can get better at analyzing situations. We can reason about conditions and circumstances that will help us make the most suitable and rational decisions. Reading will allow us to understand people and situations better and improve our ability to identify the real from the fake.

Reading improves your focus.

Reading helps us concentrate. We learn to expand and sustain our attention spans. We will be able to become better at staying motivated for long periods of times. Reading is a commitment, and therefore we can say that it helps us develop discipline and the ability to stay focused for more extended periods than those who don't read. We can extend our attention spans.

Reading helps you to become more open-minded.

Reading helps you to become more open-minded. We can open our minds up to new possibilities, new ideas and new thoughts through the act of reading. We can also get to know how different people see the world in different ways. We can also learn to be better people and to make the best of what we have. Reading helps us become better versions of ourselves.

Reading helps us gain self-knowledge.

Sometimes, we might have a hard time understanding ourselves. Reading can help us explore our unique personality and gain a better insight into what we like and dislike. It can also shape our character and help us become better at understanding our wants and needs. We can become better at understanding ourselves through the act of reading. Reading can make us more rounded and resilient individuals.
